OLED TV Highlights of CES 2008

There were two major television manufactures displaying OLED TVs in their respective display areas at CES 2008 – Sony and Samsung.

Sony OLED TV

Sony’s OLED TV display consisted of their new XEL-1 OLED Television which ships in January of 2008. The initial sale price of the TV is $2500. There were around 15 of the displays in one case. They automatically rotated on the display to show off the super thin depth, 3-millimeter bezel. Sony also had a 27” prototype OLED TV which they do not yet have an estimated ship date for. The picture quality on both of the displays was stunning and the Sony spokesperson that I interviewed stated that Sony believes that OLED TV is the television technology of the future. Sony was stating this to all onlookers.

Samsung also had a large OLED TV display case which attracted equal attention. The OLED TVs on display there were 31” diagonal and encased in a 5-millimeter depth bezel. The resolution on this panel was confidential but a representative stated 1920 X 1080. There are no dates yet on possible production of the panel.
